How should I care for my merino clothes?
Washing:
- Hand wash or machine wash: Use a gentle cycle with cold water for machine washing, or hand wash in cold water. Always check the care label first.
- Use mild detergent: Opt for a detergent specifically formulated for wool or a mild, pH-neutral detergent.
- Avoid fabric softeners and bleach: These can damage the fibers and reduce the wool’s natural properties.
Drying:
- Air dry: Lay your merino clothes flat on a towel and reshape them gently. Avoid hanging to prevent stretching.
- Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources: These can cause the fabric to shrink or lose its shape. Never tumble dry merino wool.
Storing:
- Store flat: Fold your merino clothes and store them flat to prevent stretching. Avoid hanging them for long periods.
- Keep them clean: Ensure clothes are clean before storing to prevent moth damage. Consider using cedar blocks or lavender sachets to repel moths.
Ironing and steaming:
- Iron on low heat: If needed, iron on a low heat setting with a pressing cloth to protect the fabric.
- Steam instead of iron: Steaming can help remove wrinkles without direct contact with the fabric.
Pilling:
- Use a fabric shaver: If pilling occurs, gently remove pills with a fabric shaver or a sweater comb.
